𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀!

Imagine working for a company whose Core Values include Curiosity. Now imagine that company (RPS Imaging) is located near Chicago, where many associates drive over the second-largest rock quarry in the world thousands of times each year. Naturally, curiosity eventually wins.

That curiosity led our President to join a two-year waiting list for a tour of the world-famous Thornton Rock Quarry, sponsored by the Village of Thornton Historical Society. The quarry itself is incredible. More than 410 million years ago, this area was covered by a vast tropical inland sea. Today, it stands as one of the most fascinating geological sites in the Midwest and a remarkable window into our planet’s distant past.

Of course, no adventure like this should be taken alone. Joining the tour was our 25+ year Inside Sales Manager, Bryan Sumney, who lives nearby in Hammond and never misses an opportunity to learn something new. To round out the team, we brought along geologist Steve Sittler, ensuring we had both enthusiasm and expertise covered.

The experience also served as a reminder of something we often take for granted. Every day, our drivers, service engineers, and sales associates travel the Tri-State Tollway which connects Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, and Michigan to serve our customers. The miles they log each year are truly staggering, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication and commitment.

Sometimes the most fascinating discoveries aren’t across the country, they’re right beneath the road you’ve driven a thousand times. Stay curious. You never know what history is hiding in plain sight.
