Provident Hospital of Cook County
February is Black History Month, and it begins this Saturday. It is an annually observed commemorative month originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African displacement. This year, we would like to recognize one of our long-standing hospital accounts – Provident Hospital of Cook County located in Chicago.
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, a well-known black surgeon and graduate of Chicago Medical College founded the Provident Hospital and Training School for Nurses in 1891. The hospital became the first hospital in the country with a nursing and intern program that hired African Americans. It had the distinction of being the first medical facility to be Black-owned and have the first interracial staff. In 1893, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams became the first surgeon to successfully perform open-heart surgery on a human.
RPS Imaging has proudly serviced and sold radiology products to the hospital since the late 1970’s.
